An old email, but something I want to do this year!

It's been slow getting back into running, even though I do 2 miles everyday, no rest days.  But I'm gradually increasing until when Christmas comes, and I'll be able to do this:

Direct from Lachen Ahansal :

In the Sahara Desert of Morocco - ZAGORA MARATHON & SEMI.  It will be an opportunity to discover two beautiful race courses in the exquisite, mysterious and magnificent SAHARA DESERT.  The course runs through fabled passages and there is a festival with folklorique later in the desert to celebrate THE NEW YEAR.  This event is organized by the AHANSAL brothers:  LAHCEN AHANSAL, 10 year champion of Marathon des Sables, and MOHAMED AHANSAL, 2 year champion of Marathon des Sables.  This is the 5th edition of the event.  There is assistance and information for travel, lodging and tours.
The marathon and half-marathon are both on the same circuit and share their starting and finishing lines. Standard distances 42.195Km for the marathon and 21Km for the half-marathon, measured using GPS technology.

The courses present very varied challenges, passing through the town of Zagora, across an oasis, a sand-dune, up 350m mountain...The 2007 event saw the second consecutive victory for the moroccan Hassan OULHAMI ,Who comleted the course in 2hrs. 49min. 10 sec.

Among the women runners, Aziza RAJI was again the victor, reproducing her triuphs in the two previous Zagora half-marathon. She had a time of 3hrs. 45min. 30sec. When it came to the half-marathon, the winners' crowns went to Taoufik ELBARHOUMI for the men and Fatiha CHERGHAMI for the women.
